Anbernic releases new 'MU 2' UI for RG XX series
In early June 2026, Anbernic began rolling out a major software update that refreshes the user interface (UI) for its flagship RG XX series (H700 processor-equipped devices). The update applies to almost all H700-equipped models, excluding the original 'RG35XX' and 'RG35XX (2024)'.
The highlight of this update is the introduction of a new theme called 'MU 2'. It prioritizes more intuitive operation, allowing for instant access to the settings menu via the M button and launching a quick search with the Y button. Furthermore, the navigation has been changed to use L1 and R1 buttons to switch primary menus, while the D-pad is used to operate sub-menus in a horizontal layout.
Additionally, system fonts have been refreshed and the game list has been organized, improving overall visibility and usability. While competitors have shown a passive stance toward software updates, Anbernic's continued support for existing devices and efforts to improve the user experience have been well-received by the community.
Custom OS 'ROCKNIX' releases first stable version in a year
The development team behind 'ROCKNIX', a Linux-based OS gaining support for portable gaming devices, released the long-awaited stable build (20260601) on June 1, 2026—the first since May 2025.
The updates accumulated over the past year are extensive, with the number of supported devices increasing significantly from 49 to approximately 66. Major newly supported devices include many of the latest trending handhelds such as the 'AYN Odin 3', 'Retroid Pocket 6', 'Ayaneo Pocket DMG', and 'Anbernic RG Vita Pro'.
Also, the biggest topic in this stable release is the official integration of an Arm-based Steam client. This makes it easier to run Linux-native games and Windows titles via Proton on certain Android handhelds equipped with Qualcomm SoCs. It is evolving beyond a mere retro game emulation environment into a functional PC gaming environment, and further development is expected.
GPD launches processor-refreshed model of 7-inch 'GPD MicroPC 2'
In the hardware sector, GPD has added a 2026 refresh model to its 7-inch Windows-based mini PC, the 'GPD MicroPC 2'. Orders began on June 4 through major overseas distributors.
The most significant feature of the new model is the upgrade of the processor from the previous Intel N300 to the newer 'Intel Core 3 N350'. The GPD MicroPC series, with its rich interface and physical keyboard, has maintained strong support from users who prioritize practicality, such as IT engineers for maintenance work and fieldwork.
This update can be considered a solid minor change that brings internal processing performance up to modern standards while maintaining the chassis design and basic concept. As portable gaming PCs continue to grow larger and more powerful, the continued updating of such compact devices specialized for specific uses is seen as an important move to support niche demand.
